Battle Getting PSN Back up Online
According to Patrick Seybold (Senior Director, Corporate Communications and Social Media) over on the playstation website, Kazuo Hirai – the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Sony Computer Entertainment of America – gave written answers to the questions that were posed.
One thing SOE Games is telling customers is whether their personal data was stolen as part of the attack on the service. The company is now sending out e-mails to the e-mail addresses it has on file for affected users. (SOE notes that the legit notification e-mails will be sent by a third party and will have either "soe.innovyx.net" or "soe.sony.com" in the sender field.)
The subcommittee asked Hirai questions about the criminal cyber-attack that Sony has recently experienced. PSN back up online, Sony told the subcommittee that they followed four key principles when dealing with the cyber attack. The first of these was to act with care and attention.
As for why SOE originally said it had no reason to believe its security had been compromised, the company said the hackers "used sophisticated means" not just to steal the data, but to cover up evidence that the attack had happened in the first place. Sony released a detailed account this morning of how hackers used similar techniques to infiltrate the PSN.
Sony also informed the subcommittee that they discovered that the attackers had planted a file on one of its SOE servers called ‘Anonymous,’ with the words “We are legion.” Sony also said that as of today, major credit card firms had not reported any fraudulent transactions believed to have been a direct result of the recent cyber attack.
